Information for Local Residents

The Newport Nocturne floodlit cycle race is back! Britain’s original and best, floodlit cycling event takes place on Saturday 18th August 2018.

Once again, we will have some of the UK’s best cyclists competing in our town. This year the format will be slightly different. We’ll be starting off the proceedings at 6pm with the Galliers Homes, ‘Try the Course’ which is a public access community event, where anyone with a roadworthy bicycle and helmet can have a ride around the closed roads, before the professional riders take to the streets later in the evening.

Our racing programme will kick off with a Women’s race, followed by our Supersprint challenge.

The evening will conclude with our Men’s Elite/Pro circuit race. This will star Ed Clancy, three-time Olympic Gold medallist and multiple World Champion. Ed won’t have it all his own way though, many of the UK’s top Pro riders will also be hoping to stand on the top step of the podium!

Please try and help us with the event:

  • As usual, the event takes place on closed roads. The road closure runs from 4pm to 11.59pm on Saturday 18th of August, although we anticipate the residential areas being clear earlier than that. Please can you ensure any vehicles are off the road well before 4pm.

  • Please keep any pets indoors, or dogs strictly on a lead.

  • Keep a close eye on children, the riders will be passing at between 30 and 40 mph.

  • Please be patient. We try to cause as little inconvenience to you as possible, but with an event as large as this, we cannot eliminate it entirely.

  • Please give the riders encouragement, the louder you cheer, the faster they’ll go!

  • Enjoy the event. Some people are having barbeques and garden parties, why not have your own.

  • You may even want to assist with the event. If you can help us with marshalling, then please contact us by email, or on the number above.

Thank you for your help and have a great evening.
